Been to Ofu lately?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / American Samoa

Aloha everyone,

I booked a 10 day trip to American Samoa for the Pacific Festival of the Arts, which was advertised as going til August 2nd, but it actually ends on July 30th, leaving me with 7 additional days on the island rather than four. I live in Hawaii so I'm accustomed to island life but I'm not quite sure how I'm going to fill my days (I'm staying with friends but alas, they have jobs).

I'd really like to make an excursion to Ofu but I've heard that flights are hard to get and unreliable. Has anyone been lately? Are they doing only charter flights or scheduled flights? Do you have to charter the whole plane? Is it realistic that I could get over there for a night or two and then back? I definitely wouldn't want to get stuck and miss my flight back to Honolulu.

I've considered going to 'Upolu but my budget's tight and I had the chance to visit a few years ago.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

:) Michelle

I was there in November. It's not difficult at all. The thing is that Ofu has a very short runway so it is possible that the plane won't land on a particular day due to weather. (I had to extend my stay there another day.)

Telephone http://www.interislandvacations.com and make your reservation. It's $147.50 RT and they take credit cards. Be sure to give them your contact information in AS in case there are changes.
