Entry requirements

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / American Samoa

This site (link below) says I can get in with an Australian passport without getting a permit or visa first. However, other sites, including the Australian government "Smart traveller" site, contradict this, saying USA requirements apply, i.e. ESTA visa waiver. Can someone who has entered recently give advice please

The situation is that "U.S. visa policy does not apply to the territory of American Samoa, as it has its own visa requirements and maintains control of its own borders. Hence, neither a U.S. visa nor an ESTA can be used to enter American Samoa."

Citizens or eligible nationals of the countries list below traveling to the Territory, including infants and children, must have a valid machine readable passport issued by the applicant’s country of origin with the expiration date not less than 6 months away. Citizens of these specific countries can travel to the Territory for business or tourism without first getting a permit.

Australia is on the eligible list. An onward ticket or proof of transit status is also required.
