Info about American Samoa, longer stay working vacation opportunities, drivers license, electricity

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / American Samoa

I am interested in heading to American Samoa to partake on working vacations opportunities so I can stay a little longer there and if possible and visit Samoa as well. And see if I would like to live there. What type of opportunities are available there.

I have a few questions though.

If I would like to stay longer i.e more than a month what lodging there is available that is descent but won't cost a fortune.

I read that American Samoa requires even non residents to obtain a local drivers license if they happen to be staying longer than 30 days in American Samoa. And having a local license do help in securing discounts for certain goods and service there. Though what is the procedure to secure a local license with a license from a state. Also do motorcycle endorsements from the state carry over as well? I heard the neighboring island nation of Samoa requires a local license just to rent a car. From what I read online though on either case its pretty simple process if one has a license from a US state, a local license can be obtained on the spot without much hassle. Is this info still true as the websites were created a few years ago.

Also from what I read American Samoa uses 110V outlet just like the US but Samoa uses 220V is this correct. So I would need a power converter in Samoa?

Just one last question are there nice deserted islands off the shore of American Samoa just like off the shores of the Phillipines and Saipan?

If anyone can shed some light on my questions that will be great.

I used to live in American Samoa. The best thing is to find a cheap house. I rented mine in 2012 for $300 a month. It included everything but the internet. Any license in the United States is good in American Samoa as well.

American Samoa does not have a lot of island off its' coast but there is one called Annau on the Eastern side of the island.
