The World's Best Secret Beach: My journey to Ofu Island.

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / American Samoa

Lounging around in Lalomanu, and wanting a bit of adventure, I looked out across the reef and saw the faint silhouette of another island. I was curious about it. This is the story of my journey of discovery. An adventure that took me to the world's best secret beach: http://www.michaelandersongallery.com/blog/the-long-way-to-paradise-an-exciting-journey-to-the-worlds-best-secret-beach-part-i/

Wonderful story that had me feeling like I was right there with you, I couldn't wait to get to the next chapter. Your website and writing is very inspiring. For a while now I've considered buying an SLR and seeing your work has pushed me over the edge. Looking at the pictures you take with the Canon D5 makes it worth the money. I am planning on a 7 continent RWT starting this summer that could last a few years. I love photography but have no training at all, I just point and shoot with my G9. However I do have plenty of patience which should help. Any advice on how to take professional quality photos with the D5? Practice makes perfect but are there any books or dvds you recommend that teach you how to get the most of a SLR?

I'm jealous! Think of the photos and VIDEO you can get in several years of travel. If you are interested in landscapes, I would go to www.NaturePhotographers.Net There is a ton of info there and you can post your photos and get feedback so you learn along the way! Also www.Photo.net is very good. I learn a lot by looking at the work of other great photographers. Galen Rowell is the best in the travel genre and his books 'Mountain Light' and 'Galen Rowell's Vision' are the bible references. Hope that hepls you!

Thanks for the links mike, I spent hours looking through photos. I should be buying my SLR in the next month or so and can't wait to start experimenting. I am interested in your travel photo work shop and would love to hear the plans for your next photo adventure. I'll send you an email with my background and interests. Thanks again.
