Accomodation in Raro for one night

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands

Hi all
I'm trying to book a single night of affordable accommodation in Raro for late July - but nobody seems to wants me! They say they require a minimum booking of two or three nights - even at the backpackers I've tried! Been to 80 countries and never seen this behaviour before (I take rejection badly :-)

So ...
Anyone know an inn that will take a weary traveller for a night? A stable will do.
Thanks

Sorry, no direct answer to your 'stable question'. Just back from Rarotonga..late March. business So-ooo slow that you will NOT have a problem IMHO. Rarely have I slept in a doorway. My suggestion: Show up..".here I am....who wants my $$money$$" ?? Ask around.
A quaint island.....little 'Mom and Pop' beach-side accomodations predominate the scene. First stop?? TheTourist Office in Avarua (Population 4,000) it's right off the beach.Or Ask around at the Bus Sta. behind CITC shop arcade...also across street from beach. Then I'd take the Bus Anti-clockwise or hitch and inquire at first likely cheapo inns WEST of Avarua village proper. The good stuff is South around Titikaveka beach area...Avarua is North side. Good Luck. Locomotiveman

Have you tried the Paradise Inn. Looks as though they allow single night bookings.

The Aquarius Hotel is opposite the airport and although they don't advertise one night stays I think they must allow them as so many people use the place for exactly what you are looking for.

Worth a try.

I've stayed at both the Aquarius and Paradise for just one night. I recommend the Aquarius over the Paradise. Better rooms and better location for the Aquarius. Don't make too much noise in your room though because they have an open-air ventilation system that allows noise (my wife's hair dryer at six in the morning in this case) to disturb your neighbors.

I recall that they had people from places with availability at the airport meeting planes. As you exit customs there will be a lady asking where you are going to stay. (Technically you are supposed to have one nights accommodation booked.) Tell her your plight. I'm sure she will assist you.

You might also try emailing the tourist office and asking them to assist you.

Many thanks everyone. The kind folk at the Paradise Inn are the luck winners. It appear that it is a time-of-the-year thing. That is, it's not cost effective to take folk in for a single night when they could get someone for a week. I'm happy. Again, thanks for your help.
