Aitutaki with young children

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands

Next summer my wife and I celebrate our 10th anniversary, and plan to do so on Aitutaki where we spent our honeymoon. We'll be travelling from London and meeting my best man and his wife, who are coming from Auckland. Each family now has two children and there will also be joining us. The eldest will be eight, the youngest four.

Does anyone have any ideas for accommodation on Aitutaki which would be good with children?

Does anyone have ideas for activities (things might have change in 10 years) which would be suitable with the children?

Thanks.

Some accommodation suggestions -
1. Are Tai villas which are located on the beachfront in Amuri, and next door to Puffy's licenced diner/takeaway. Both villas are same sized, fully self contained on a pretty beach - shallow, but swimmable at high tide - and read 'safe' for younger children. Kayaks supplied.
2. The lagoon-view (not absolute beachfront) family sized lodges at Paradise Cove. Paradise Cove is located on the opposite side of Puffy's to the Are Tai villas. Small by comparison with Are Tai villas.
3. Paparei Bungalows nearer to town than the first 2. above - handy to local stores, and banking. Lagoon is very shallow at this spot however.
4. Rino's Motel and apartments -- very good value, clean and comfortable, same beachfront/shallow lagoon. Neighbour to Paparei (No 3. above).

Aitutaki: Lagoon cruises, glass bottom boat tour, snorkelling, swimming, kayaking, island nites, safari tour, hiking, crab racing, dining, relaxing. Enjoy your celebration visit.
