Are they still using the motu for Survivor'

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands

I read that they wanted to close down the motus to film Survivor. When was this ? and did they do it? What is the situation at the moment ? Are they filming again ? I hope not as in Aug 2008 we plan to go back to Aitutaki and it would be terrible if we couldn't visit the motus!!! If anyone can fill me in I would be grateful !!!! I hope they didn't wreck the place!!! Did they clean up after them? These programs don't have much respect for the islands that they use ( correct me if I am wrong)

It all ended about a year ago. All the islets are open as before, and were a few weeks after they left last year. They didn't leave a mess, it's still beautiful. Not sure about other programs, but Survivor does seem to care about leaving things as good or better than before they filmed.

Although Survivor is finished, I have heard that they are about to start filming another series of the British reality TV show 'Shipwrecked' and as a result some of the motus will be closed to the public for the next few months.

I think they filmed that after Survivor, at the end of 2007. Don't think anything new is planned, maybe JeanieJ would know.

Good to hear that they respect the Islands that is VERY important. Thanks

Yeah they did film it then, but I have heard they are now filming a new series. My info has come from Tripadvisor posters who have just returned within the last week and have commented that the film crew is starting to set up and that lagoon operators have confirmed that some motus will be closed.

Lucky---Could be. You can try to e-mail Bishops Cruises or TeKing cruises on Aitutaki, or any main accommodation on Aitutaki,or even the Tourist Office, they'd have the latest info. In the first show, Shipwrecked didn't use One-Foot, they used other motu.

According to the cruise operator I was with, Shipwrecked in closing three islets, but not the ones the tours stop at anyway. And unlike Survivor, they're not closing off access to any of the lagoon. So any inconvenience will be slight.
