Are you out there Papa Mike?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands
Hi Papa Mike! Just wondering how the updates to the book are coming along? We had a guest here a few days ago who left us the 2003 version of your handbook that she has used to plan her trip. Loved reading about the outer islands and hope we are able to visit a few before we head back to Canada. FYI, Aitutaki is starting to turn on as a kite surfing destination. A women's kite surfing competition is going to be held here Oct 2 -9 this year. It's certainly been windy enough for it this week :( I'm sure you know the Sunday flights are up and running and the protests have died down to just a few grannies with signs. Otherwise, it's life as usual in paradise. Cheers,
Hi Kristene, The second edition of Papa Mike's Cook Islands Handbook is indeed complete and at the publisher, with final corrections to the front and back covers to be completed next week, you can look for a release in late September or Early October. The new book has expanded by over 90 pages, with up to date information, (including Matriki Beach Huts) enhanced coverage of outer islands and updates on lodgings restaurants and tours on all islands. Sunday flights to and from Aitutaki, though instituted to late for the book, are a welcome addition and will make the spectacular lagoon on Aitutaki accessible to many more travelers. The flights are at this point, only experimental, but all indications are that they will become the standard. While I sympathize with the ideals of the CICC, the flights and connections to international flights are necessary for the Cooks to compete with Tahiti and Fiji for visitors. Enjoy your time in paradise Kristene, I have trouble symathizing with your wind problem, has something to do with the snow on the mountains and the freezing rain here in Montana. Those of you planning trips, look for the new book on Amazon and other Internet bookstores by the end of the month. Warm Regards to All, Papa Mike | 1
Hi Papa Mike, Fantastic! I will be back in civilization for a visit in October so hopefully I can round up a few copies. I'll be sure to recommend it to all of our inquiring guests. Snow? In September? OK, I don't feel so bad now. LOL. Cheers, | 2
