Cook Island weather in June

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands

Hi there!

My girlfriend and I are planning a honeymoon on the Cook Islands this June (end) but have second thoughts since we got some info that temperatures could be very chilly that time of year (min also 14 degrees C).

Does this mean that only cold nights or also days? does that mean just binging a warmer sweater? do islands differ in comparison?

Since it is our honeymoon we would like to have some warm sunbathing, diving, snorkling temp. as much as possible and info on this would help us a lot!

Thanx in advance!!

I haven't been there but those numbers don't sound right. The temps I just saw were about 25 during the day and maybe 19 at night?? I would suggest before you change your plans that you check out a couple of sites and compare temps.

The much asked Cook Islands weather question. For once and for all folks, the weather varies but a few degrees from winter to summer in the Cooks, as it is relatively close to the equator. Winter is between July and September with Summer between December and April. Rain is always a possibility, more concentrated in January to March, but the rain occurs in great cloudbursts, seldom interupting your activities for an extended time and often occuring at night. It is more humid during the summer. Consumption of rum is good any time of the year, class dismissed!

June is a great month to visit. It's warm or maybe hot during the day, there's less rain than in Dec-March, and there is little humidity. 14C would be rare, and only about 3am. 20-25C during the day. Chilliest month is August. And even then, it's still warm enough to swim in the lagoon. Just bring a light jacket or sweater for the evening if you will be on a motorbike. Not even needed if you are just walking.

I was there in May last year and the weather was devine for both swimming and general sight seeing... We also spent our honeymoon there in November 2002, we love it so much we will keep returning! Have a wonderful time! Oh and if you get the chance try to get to Aitutaki if you can for at least 3-4 nights!

I agree with SPjunky, try to get to Aitutaki. It's a beautiful island, and as it's about 150 miles north of Rarotonga (closer to the equator) it will also be a few degrees warmer than on Raro.
