Looking for info on travel to Atiu and Aitutaki.
I'm afraid Air Rarotonga is your only option for traveling between islands. Here is a web site that will give you information on various places to stay on Aitutaki. You can search it by price and the contact information is listed for each site. There is one other accommodation that is not listed above which is probably the least expensive on Aitutaki and that is Josie's Beach Lodge e-mail: josies@aitutaki.net.ck phn (682) 31 659 You're not going to find anything for $20 a night on Aitutaki and I don't think there is anything for that price on Aitu either. Good luck with your planning Edited by: Araura | 1
For Atiu I highly recommend Marshall Humphry's place, Atiu B&B. Marshall is a great host and local guide as well as having a deep understanding of all things Atiu related. His background is in the hotel business in the UK before setting on Atiu with his wife Jeanne. She is the daughter of the writer Tom Neal and Akekarapo Taringa, a local lady from Atiu. | 2
I didn't get to other islands; flights were just too expensive on the days I could travel. (Maybe that had to do with the Pacific leaders' conference.) There seems to be a passenger "ferry" (a small, converted fishing boat) that goes from Avatiu port to other Southern Islands (NZ$125 if I remember correctly), but that wasn't heading where I wanted to go when I was on Rarotonga. | 3
