Dinner Spots on Rarotonga?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands

We've been to Rarotonga a couple times now, but always like trying new places to eat and drink!

We're planning a fishing trip and we're wondering what bars/restaurants might be available around Avatiu Harbour ? After a long day of fishing we want a good place to relax and have a drink by the water.

We always stick to Marlin Queen for their fishing. Their chartered services provide the best value for the money spent when comparing their company to any other competitors on the island. You start off the day early in the Avatiu Harbour so there is no time wasted while on the water. Their experienced staff will do all of the work while passengers sit back and relax. The views of the island from the sea are worth it alone.

I had such difficulty finding info about good restaurants around this area, I thought that it would be useful to post something for fellow travellers of Rarotonga.

Send me a reply if you have any recommendations!

Hi Jessica,

Not much by way of dining places around the immediate vicinity of Avatiu. Couple of suggestions though,

  1. High Tide opposite the Punanga Nui market - pizzas and grills

  2. Sea Salt takeaway in the former Mama's Café shop

  3. Nu Bar further towards the airport.

Good luck with the fishing trips!

Hi There,

I would head to Whatever! Bar & Grill a cool little bar on the waterfront in Avarua. They will even cook your catch for you served with fries and salad for only $10 bucks. Your fishing charter will be able to point you in the right direction.

Cheers :)
