Diving & snorkeling Aitutaki

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands

Hi again! I'm curious to hear about any experiences you have had diving or snorkeling Aitutaki. Any particular spots that took your breath away? (OK, maybe not such a good thing when you're underwater!) Memorable marine life encounters? Tips and advice for first-timers to the island?

Hubby and I are working on a new website for our upcoming job and until we get to Aitutaki (providing our immigration stuff is all approved - fingers crossed), we are relying on website info - I'd like to hear some feedback from folks who've actually "been there done that". And if you have any nice diving/snorkeling pics from Aitutaki we'd love to post them on the site...with your permission, first, of course. Plus, we are both scuba-crazy and enjoy torturing ourselves looking at crystal clear water and tropical fish while we're stuck inland!

Cheers,
Kristene

See my tips on snorkeling on the FAQ at the beginning of this branch.
Main tips for Aitutaki:
---snorkel near Maina islet, SW corner of the lagoon.
---be very careful in the channel near the Aitutaki Lagoon Resort, lots of stonefish.

Ive just been to aitutaki and rarotonga for a holiday, i was there in June. And If you Love diving in Crystal clear water you will find Aitutaki perfect. The best places are in the deep parts of the lagoon, you have to take a lagoon cruise to get there, but near Honneymoon island was some of the best snorkeling i have ever done, Just so much coulour and diffrent kinds of fish its amazing. we did take alot of pics some underwater ones too, so if you would like i could send some.
