Education in the Cook Islands

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands

Hi everyone! I'm new here- so be kind! I've searched but I can't find anyone talking about education in the Cooks. I have just secured a 3 week teaching placement on Rarotonga (14 June-7 July) through my uni in Melbourne in a primary school!!
I'm very excited!
I've never been there before and I would very much like to know anything people can tell me about the schools there, and education in general!!! Any hints on how I can relate my 'traditional English' teacher training in Australia to the Cook Islands?

cook is. education system has close ties with nz education and basically the same curriculum.

Which school will you be teaching at? We are Australians living in Rarotonga, with a son at a local school. Feel free to PM me if you would like some more specific info. As tehenga says, the curriculum is very close to the NZ system, which isn't drastically different from Australia.
