Flight to the Cooks Free stopover in NZ

My family and I planning a trip to the Cook Islands via Auckland, ( from Canada ) we want to stop first in NZ for a week and continues to the Cooks...

Is there such free stop over?

Check with Air New Zealand. They used to offer free stopovers, don't know if they still do, though. I got 3 free stopovers on an ANZ flight, but that was back in 1994. I expect things have changed by now, but it won't hurt to check with the airlines.
