Flights to Aitutaki

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands

Hi, I was wondering if it is best to book flights to Aitutaki in advance, (quite expensive), or wait until I get there to book them.
I read in one of the posts that it's a lot cheaper to book your flights while you are there; the person also said that they release the cheaper seats a week before.

I arrive on 30/12/11 and want to fly to Aitutaki on 04/01/12.

Please give me your opinions book now or wait till I get there?
Thanks

We were in Aitutaki a few years back.

We did not book anything in advance, no accommodation, no flights etc (only the return flight) - still we did alright got our flights booked and the flight to Aitutaki was relatively cheap.

I would advise not to book in advance.

The problem might be with your timing as a lot of Cook Islanders return from NZ for the Christmas/New year holiday period - you may find that there will be many sold out flights at that time. Why not check Air Raratonga to see how the flights are looking at the moment - cheaper seats may not even be an option.

Flight prices to Aitutaki are always a bit of a lottery, but often you can get cheaper flights at short notice.

BUT, as newfie as said, you'll be there in peak season when thousands of CIers living overseas visit for the holidays. I would guess that you chances of getting cheap flights on those dates is virtually nil and you may find you can get no flights at all if you leave it to the last minute.
