How long do you suggest to stay in the Island?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands
Hi there , I'm Francesco I'm planning to go to the Coock Island. Cheers, Francesco
franz1789... Three other islands to consider are; Aitutaki for everything water-related and minimal day hiking; Aitu for guided cave trips, reef walking and fishing; Mangaia is probably the best place for unguided day hikes with the possibility of an overnight cross-island trip along the road and an interesting hike along an old horse trail that starts near the airport and connects to the road system near the middle of the island. Fishing, some snorkeling or free-diving is available on all the islands if you hook up with a local that can provide boat transportation. | 1
Thanks a lot for you advice, H2ooh.. | 2
I believe the only other tropical destination you can link to from Rarotonga is Tahiti. Air Rarotonga has flights on Tues and Sat. Looks like the OW airfare is around $390NZD. Check out http://airraro.com | 3
Hey Francesco, When are you going to be in Raro? I will be there for 2 weeks in November. Will you be there then? You will love the Cooks, they are unbelievably beautiful! Enjoy! L. | 4
You need an onward plane ticket when you arrive in the Cooks, or they'll put you right back on the plane you came in on. Good suggestions above. However, be aware that on Mangaia NO ONE likes to travel inland after dark, due to the fear of ghosts. I am not kidding! So, maybe pay a local guide (maybe NZ$20 for a few hours) and do it in the daytime. Very interesting island, as are Atiu, Mauke, Mitiaro, and the more-visited Aitutaki. In total, I'd take two or three weeks. One is not really enough. | 5
