January Honeymoon - Hot?????Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands
Hi there, We've been living in the tropics, in Darwin Australia for 3 years and will be 'escaping' the 'wet season' there. January is about the hottest, most humid time of the year in Darwin, when it is pretty much unbearable to be outside out of the air conditioning for any period of time. We don't mind the odd downpour (in fact quite like it if it's over quickly!) but humidity is a killer! So, as you might imagine, we don't want to find ourselves in any such similar place for our honeymoon! Any advice from locals or people who have visited in January would be very much appreciated! Cheers, Clare
Hi Clare, I traditionally visit from January to March, as snow in Montana is far worse than heat and humidity in Cook Islands. I am not familiar with the heat and humidity in Darwin, but it can be quite hot and humid in Rarotonga in January. That being said a ceiling fan in the room and a swim in Muri Lagoon ofset a lot of discomfort. Rain is certainly possible, though it rarely effects your activities, pouring down for half an hour and then clearing. Hope this information helps, I am sure you would enjoy the Cook Islands if you do visit, but expect some heat and humidity. Papa Mike | 1
New Zealand will not be humid why not consider that instead of the Cook's. | 2
I visited the Cooks early in their summer and still found it warm (rather than hot) .- it should certainly be more pleasant than Darwin. I have spent lots of time in Tonga which is similar in climate to the Cooks. There, I preferred the summer months, because the winter was quite cool. So, if you are used to the tropics then I don't think you will find the summer temperatures / humidity unpleasant. | 3
