Muri Shell Bungalows/Rarotonga Backpackers or other accommodation?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands

I was wondering if anyone had stayed here, or had heard anything good or bad about the place?

I have enquired about the flat attached to the shell shop, but most of the reviews on Trip Advisor mention the bungalows themselves...

Also, any information on the beach huts at Rarotonga Backpackers?

Both are in different locations, but the same price ($80). Am tempted by the Shell Bungalows as they are on Muri Beach, but they are some distance back from the beach, unlike the backpackers.

Any advice appreciated!

Sorry I should add that $80 is my max budget- I will be staying for a week on Rarotonga with my boyfriend. We'd like cooking facilities but don't mind a backpackers. Would prefer it to be on a nice beach, and not too noisy/busy.

A lot of the places I already enquired at are unavailable- Aremango's and Vara's for example.

Hi Mandy,

I stayed at Muri Beach Bungalows last month. We were in one of the bunglalows, but the owners were staying in the flat. They just tiled the whole unit, painted it inside and out and bought some new furniture. It is a great spot, but I am hardely an impartial opinion, having known Mike and Tina for many years. It is only a two minute walk to the lagoon and the bus swtops right in front of the flat.

I consider Muri Shell Bungalows to be one of the best values on Rarotonga, perfect location and directly between the Pacific Resort and Murii Beach Club Resort. Plenty of restaurants and shops. All three units have modern kitchens, fully screened, TV CD and DVD players, are clean and have great patios for happy hour. Hard to do much better for the price.

Have a great trip!

Papa Mike
