Peak season in the Cook Islands ?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands

Hi

Is there such a thing as a peak season in the Cook Islands. A season where there is more tourists and more activity than other times. I am planning on going in september 2010

Thanx for any advice

Here are the monthly numbers from the Cook Islands statistics office; http://www.stats.gov.ck/Statistics/Tourism/tourism_total%20prov.htm

It seems that July is the busiest month and February the slowest.

July is traditionally the busiest season, being winter-time in NZ and with school holidays occuring then.
September is a very nice time to visit - with temps being warmer, although the September school hols is attracting lots of people during that timeframe also . The stats for September 2009 will be inflated by the change of timing for our Maire Nui festival followed by the Mini Games being held in Raro - so bear this in mind when the new figures for current year are released by C Is govt. Ka kite.

Hi,
I have also heard from a number of travel agents and read somewhere that Christmas time Dec right through to the end of January is very busy on the island. This is the time many locals, who are living overseas, come home for christmas and new year to spend with their families. The small flights between the 'big island' Rarotonga and the smaller ones are also busy for the same reason.
