Snorkeling

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands

Would like to hear about recent snorkeling experiences in the Cook Islands. Were you able to snorkel right off the beach or was it much better taking a boat trip? In general, how does snorkeling in the Cook Islands compare with other great snorkeling places?

Snorkeling off the beach was better in Aitutaki than Rarotonga.
It is probably better outside the reef than inside but that means taking a boat trip on both islands.
Rarotonga was just so so we prefer the Mamanucas in Fiji.

Was in the Cook Islands Last week. The snorkelling was pretty good as it is very accessible from the beach in Rarotonga. Plenty of marine life including moray eels and Lionfish, but coral was only so so.
