Surfing on Rarotonga

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands

Hi-

I have a few questions about surfing in the Cook Islands.

Can anyone tell me what the surf is like in September? Does anyone longboard there or is it only shortboarders? Also, I read online about a surf shop where you can possibly buy a board and then sell it back? Does anyone know if this is true?

Thank you!

Best contact one of the local surfing enthusiasts, like Niki's Surf Shop, located next to Chillis Sports Bar in Tupapa (both part of a the family owned venture). The main reef breaks that I'm aware of on Raro are at Black Rock - social centre beach, Tupapa (about 300 metres from Niki's & directly behind the Ministry Health), and also in Ngatangiia next to the playground at Te Oki Ou School. Niki's Surf Shop website describes board length etc. Google the addy.
