Travelling on my own

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands

I'm planning on going to Rarotonga in the next 6 months. I'm a 45yr old solo mum and want some time out and new experiences.
This will be the first time I've travelled outside of NZ on my own.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what type of accomodation I should go for.
I had thoughts of a bungalow on the beach, comfortable, self contained something thats not too expensive, everything seems to be over
NZ$100.

The going rates are over NZ $100.

You might consider getting private accomodation from one of the backpacker places such as Vara's or Rarotonga Backpackers.

I agree with Silvanocat, I like to stay in private rooms in Hostels, in case I get tired of my own company. I rented a little cottage from Gwen in Muri beach, called something like Muri beach cottages(?) was quite reasonable.

You would be safe as houses at Shangri-La

In jan 07 Aremango's, near Vara's, was $50 NZ for a double, less for a single. As an over 50 backpacker, I found it satisfactory, but not fancy, not a party place, at least not while I was there. Mature, interesting, RTW travellers of all ages. A couple of people were staying weeks to a month there. I posted another more detailed description recently.

If Ron Powell is still managing Aremango, I would definitely agree with #4. Other places to meet older single travelers include Paradise Inn, but it's in town, not on a beach.
