Hello, | ||
I am hoping that the lack of a reply is a sign that no one has heard warnings and it is no longer an issue ??? Raro do you know what the current situation is ? It 's just travelling with kids one gets a bit anguish ! | 1
Yes ,I'm answering my own question. I have found out from another site, from a very nice woman who lives on Rarotonga, that as of now there have been no more recent cases of the dengue fever, it was bad in 2006/07. One should take precautions by using a good mozzie spray, long clothing when in the bush (There are LOTS of mozzies at the waterfall) and stay on the breezy side of the island if possible. It is the day time mozzie that spreads the fever so extra care to be taken early morning and before sunset if the mozzie that spreads it is around. There were 19 or 20 cases in tourists and many of these were CI who live in NZ and were home on hoildays(They mainly have homes inland and not beachfront bungalows where there is a sea breeze to keep the weak flying mozzie away) . I have checked WHO and they haven't got a warning for an outbreak at the moment in the Cooks. But it is always best to be safe than sorry. So just be aware and take the precautions and enjoy the beauty of the Islands. Edited by: hollybell | 2
