Weather in FebruaryCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands
Hello - I am considering going to the Cooks Islands end of Jan. to middle of February........apparently this is still the rainy season - is this true and is the rain so bad you can't snorkel, swim or enjoy yourself? Thanks, Tyner
I really hope your visit wont be delayed or cancelled due to Raro's summer weather. The island can receive a tropical downpour during summer, but not every day over this period. And while one side of the island can be wet (prevailing winds strike the East, NW & SE in the main), the opposite side of the island can remain completely dry. that's they beauty of Raro - everywhere is accessible, with its own loveliness. Snorkelling and swimming activities you are going to get wet anyway, so you may as well enjoy the wet days this way. And we have plenty of indoors shelter should it rain. Relax into island time and enjoy this beautiful island. | 1
Having spent February on Rarotonga four out of the last five years, I can tell you that the rain will likely not affect your enjoyment of the island. It rains buckets, but it is usually at night or in the morning and is over within fifteen minutes. It is hot and humid, but that can be mitigated by spending time in the shade on the lagoon, where breezes keep it comfotable. I choose January, February & March for my visits, as the wweather in Montana is miserable during that time, but close to the equator seasons are mild. February is off season in the Cook's and lodgings are fairly negotiable, especially if you are on an extended visit. Enjoy your trip and hopefully the weather will not hamper your time on the island.
