Where to stay in Muri Beach?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Cook Islands

My bf and I are looking for beach accommodation around $200 a night near Muri Beach. Were staying 2 weeks in October and have book a few nights at The Rarotonga Backpackers in a beach hut. Ive looked at Kura's Kabana's, Aroko Bungalows, Tiana's, Muri Beach Hideaway, Muri Beach Resort, Muri Beach Cottages. Too just name a few.
Any suggestions on these places?

Also for somewhat budget conscious travelers but want to stay beach front, where would you recommend anywhere on the island?

We'd also love to stay with the locals for a couple nights, is that at all possible?

Cheers & Thanks,

Emily :)

I loved Muri Beach Hideaway. Price is around $200 a night and it's right on the beach within easy walking distance to restaurants, etc. They have kayaks you can take out on the lagoon- do that on a full moon night- it's amazing!

Muri Beach Hideaway also has a plunge pool and deck facing into the lagoon. The beachfront is reasonably busy around here, being more or less the centre of the beach with water-activities and nearby accommodation and cafes. Muri Beach Resort and Tiana's at the south end of Muri is quieter. MBR has its own licenced cafe newly built.

Ru's Guesthouse in Rutaki offers a homestay where visitors interact with the family and learn about cultural activities. Ru's is on the inland side of a very quiet but scenic lagoon.

Have just realised I misspelt RAU"S Guesthouse in Rutaki, Rarotonga. I left the 'a' out of Rau's accommodation.

I stayed at Muri Beach Cottages last November and it was fabulous. It is about a 10-minute walk to Vara's, but it was a lovely location where we often had the beach all to ourselves. No pool, but a lovely deck, great hostess and we felt safe sleeping at night with the balcony door wide open. Have a fabulous trip!
