where to stay on Raratonga

My husband and I are travelling to the Cook Islands April May 2017. Firstly we are staying on Aitutaki and then at the Edgewater at Rarotonga for the Golden Oldies Rugby Festival. We have another week in Rarotonga and thought we might like to stay on another part of the island. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments comparing Muri Lagoon or staying closer to Avarua. We love the beach and water but also we like to go out for dinner and drinks without the hassle of transport. I've heard the bus service is good. Appreciate any comments or other suggestions. TM
