1 month in Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi everyone, myself and my partner are going on a RTW trip starting the beginning of April in the US, and we will be spending all of May in Fiji.
As America is going to be pretty full-on, we want our month in Fiji to be pretty laid back and relaxed.
So far we have only booked our flights. We would like to stay at the Nadi Bay resort hotel for the first few days then maybe do a trip of the Yasawas, have found a 9 day trip with Awesome Adventures which sounds amazing, obviously expensive though! Then maybe we will go back to Nadi Bay for the rest of our time there and just do day trips to places on the buses as from what I've read they are quite cheap.
Does this sound reasonable? Other than the tour we would like to keep things as low cost as possible. Also are we best to pre book all of our accommodation online before we arrive as May is a busy time? Thanks if anyone can give us any advice :-)

I think you will find that a few days after returning from the Yasawas is long enough in Nadi and you will probably want to go exploring, You might want to wait on booking any more accommodation till you get there and talk to fellow travellers at Nadi Bay and get some idea of their favourite places .Although I prebooked everything to be on the safe side I met many travellers who were coming and going often to the hostels in that area and either contacted them a few days ahead or on the day.
You would spend a lot of time on buses if you did everything from Nadi and although the wee enclave by the sea where the hostels are is ok Nadi isnt really a nice bit of Fiji.- I liked Venua Levu but regretted I had prebooked everything and couldnt get to Taveuni .

You can take the bus around Viti Levu with lots of stop off places, for total relaxation I would recommend Leleuvia, also the Beach House for some days at each place, you would need to fly to the other main islands, May is not an Australian school/uni holiday time, so you really shouldn't have trouble with accommodation, I would not be staying in Nadi twice, you could also try one of the 7 day Blue Lagoon or Captain Cook cruises, which take you to lots of different places, all interesting and good,

As mentioned Nadi is an Indian farming town with an international airport not the sort of place to spend any more than a day or so.
