1 night stopover in SuvaCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
Hi again! I am now also having a stopover in Suva. Could you reccomend good, safe and not so expensive place to stay close to the airport? What Can I do in one afternoon (I do arrive on a Saturday and I heard of a street market, and at night? Thanks for the suggestions!
Suva ? Or Nadi ? Suva is a great place for a stopover. Great city. Not many hotels near the airport though. Check out Motel 6 in Walu St. | 1
Strange to have a flight stop over in Suva and not Nadi, there is indeed a great Saturday market. I would recommend the Colonial lodge, I wouldn't say that it is close to the airport (the airport is 15miles/30 minutes outside the city) but it is nice and inexpensive. (http://www.coloniallodge.com.fj/index.php) I would not recommend the Raintree lodge as it is outside of town, lacking of hot water and infested with bird sized mosquitoes. | 2
I am doing international flights, that´s why! So I have 1 stopover in each city. If I saty at this Colonial, is it close to the Saturday Market? Tks! | 3
"I am doing international flights" - | 4
Actually. Do ANY International flights land in Suva these days ? I know they've stopped flights from Auckland to Suva. I flew out of Nausori once - quite an experience. And I flew into Nausori once - quite beautiful. | 5
I am coming from Tonga, that's why, the plane stops there and I prefered to drop there instead of Nadi! But I do stay in Nadi the day I arrive and leave from Fiji. The other point, I reserchead a bit over these places you suggested. Is it okay to walk from there to the Market and city Centre? Thanks a lot | 6
I believe that the Colonial is actually very close to the market. I could only find one place that has street maps of Suva ( http://www.openstreetmap.org/) and if you zoom way in and look just north of the bottom of Suva on the left hand side you will see a small indent of water called "Walu bay" below that and to the left is "Rodwell street" which is the main market street and just below Walu bay and to the right of Rodwell street is the convergence of Anand street and Robertson road (the location of the Colonial) of course, Suva is very small by most standards and a short walk will get you half way across the city anyways | 7
