10 days, just Yasawas or Yasawas/Viti Levu?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Next October will spend 10 days in Fiji (single Backpacker), planning to stay 4 nights in Blue Lagoon Beach Resort (dorm) but have to decide what to do for next days, choose other place in the Yasawas (octopus resort?) or spend some days in viti levu (Beachouse?) to see another island?

Thanks in advance for any reply!!!

I did the Yasawas then spent my final days at the Beachouse. I wished I had stayed in the Yasawas the entire time.

2-3 days at one place is generally ideal. Longer can lead to boredom at most places, and less means too much transferring around. Blue Lagoon and Octopus are good and quite similar (though BL is newer & better). You should include at least one more place if you do decide to stick with the Yasawas.

I agree with Tch7. 4 nights at one location is just about perfect. I'd move on to Waya Island for the second half
of your trip since Waya is a volcanic island with hiking to villages and the 1500 foot summit of the island's tallest peak
from where you can see the entire Yasawa Island chain. The other island is vastly different (view them on GoogleEarth
to get an idea) flatter and without much flora so you will be able to mix up the experience by visiting both.

Blue Lagoon and Octopus are good choices. Octopus is bigger and has more of a social life - BLBR quieter but very beautiful. The Cave trip is worth doing from there, and from Octopus you would have the possibility of doing the "snorkelling with mantarays" trip. Although run by the same company along similar lines, they are quite different in atmosphere. Go to BLBR first and get the long boat trip in the morning. Then if you need to get back to the mainland earlier than the Flyer does (around 6pm) you will have the option of doing that trip on the Octopus boat and getting back in the early afternoon.
