12 days at Octopus resort and Coconut Grove

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I am planning a holiday in Fiji in mid to late October of this year. I am planning on first staying 6 days at Octopus resort in Waya Island and then, 6 days at Coconut Grove on Tavenui island. Has anyone been to the following two resorts? Can you tell me about your experiences with them? Also, would 6 days on each island be too much? Will we run out of activities to do? We are there for both relaxation and fun, so don't need everyday to be filled with activity.

Octopus has been a favourie of mine for many years (17 annual visits to date). We usually stay up to 2 weeks and never have any trouble filling in our time. What specifically would you like to know?
Have you factored in an overnight stay in Nadi between these 2 resorts? You may find that by the time you get back to Nadi you will miss an onward connection to Taveuni.

I went to Octopus couple years ago and loved it. Great place to relax. Dont know if Id go 17 times though!!!

Personally I'd do 3 days Octopus and 3 days elsewhere (eg. Blue Lagoon) just to get a bit more variety, and because transferring around is so easy. I consider 3 days to be the ideal length of time at those places - time to do some activities, but still with plenty of time to just do nothing if you so choose.

Can't comment on Taveuni.

You won't run out of activities in Octopus as there are many on offer. I stayed a week last September and wasn't bored at all. Snorkelling on the house reef, village visits, lounging on the beach, reading (they have an exchange library), hiking trips, participating in the crab race (money goes to the village kids school fund), volleyball ("shots for shots") and fun quiz nights to name a few. Nothing wrong with that and totally relaxing. Good food on large tables so you meet a lot of the guests and a lovely staff that sings to you when you arrive and depart. Wouldn't mind going back at all!

Blue Lagoon Resort is really good too though, with (some) different activities and a similar set up. It's a smaller operation than Octopus, under the same management, but a lot further north, so it takes more time to get there and away. However, totally worth it, would like to go back there as well.

Enjoy Fiji, I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time!

"It's a smaller operation than Octopus, under the same management" - is it really?

5

is it reallyunder same management. I realise that it is smaller

6

They have their own managers on site, but yes, they are sister resorts.

You won't run out of things to do at either place. I stayed at Octopus for a week and was pretty busy with the mix of activities and the snorkelling/diving, plus the village visits/school visit/local rugby match. I am off to Taveuni for 12 days next month and hope to try most things without running out of time. Once again there is diving and snorkelling, visiting the waterfalls, hiking the Lavena coast walk, horse riding up the volcano crater, bird watching at bobby's farm and the trip up Des Voeux Peak, visiting the markets and kayaking. You can have as active or relaxing a time as you want at both places and I expect you will have a marvellous holiday.

ive usually enjoyed the place in 4 days and keen for another, depends on whos there at the time you are to a degree, Octopus and Blue Lagoon have a 7 day menu and night loose entertainment cycle so more than that would be too chilled and a little too much for me
