16 hours in Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi everyone, in two weeks time I'm arriving in Fiji with my fiancee at 6 in the morning and leaving at 10PM the same day. So we've got about 15 hours or so. Any suggestions aside from exploring Nadi and then heading to Raffles? I figure we've got enough time to hire a car and explore a bit, is it worth heading out on the road?

Hire a car & head up to Lautoka - about half hour drive. Go to the market there, it's one of the biggest in Fiji. Not a tourist town so you will get an idea of how the locals live. If you have time call in to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant - signposted on main road back to Nadi - wonderful orchid collection and some nice walks.

have a look at these two websites

and

both have some good options for you

You could even do what TaiMarilyn proposes by local bus for an extra dimension.
Rather than hire a car, I would take a cab. There is a fixed price of F$30 from the airport to Lautoka (I think), and if you want one all day they will negotiate. I would guess at F$100???

Cheers,
Peter
