2 travellers looking for a cheap party placesCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
Hi all, myself and my pal are looking to go to Fiji around February time. We are mostly looking for a party type place, only looking to go for around a week max because we're very skint. I really have no clue about Fiji at all, where are the best party towns/backpacker places? Could we possibly do 5 days in $800-$1000 NZ including flights from Wellington, or is that unrealistic? Any info would be muchly appreciated, thanks in advance travelers.
Beachcomber Island Resort is the party place. Manta Ray Island Resort can also be pretty lively. Otherwise there's not much of a party scene in Fiji, or anywhere in the South Pacific. If you're talking about NZ$800-1000 each for a week, then that should be doable if you get a good price on the flights. But if you think that $800-1000 will cover both of your costs, there's no chance in hell. | 1
Assuming that's per person from Wellington you may want to seriously look into what a travel agent can offer you. By travel agent I mean the flight centre type places along with the 'holidays' departments of each airline - Air Pacific, Air NZ. Fiji is still one place (along with a few of the Pacific Islands) where if you are going for a 'standard' length of time like 5 or 7 days you can get a good deal for little more than the airfare. For the most part the travel agent offers are unlikely to be party type places but you could still get a good deal. The exception is that STA travel do packages to Beachcomber so you could look into that. | 2
Aye i was talking about per person, so hopefully we can find some cheap flights. Think we'll look at some travel agents and see if we can get there for cheap, we're also thinking about possibly leaving a wee bit earlier and going in December. Thanks for the info guys. | 3
Hey buddy, Seems like resorts are everyone's answer for Fiji, but I reckon it can be done on the cheap and cheerful. Good luck. | 4
Am I going to regret skipping Beachcomber? I definitely want to party, but $119 Fijian a night seemed a bit steep for a huge dorm that smells of vomit... | 5
I guess it depends on what you mean by "party..." Using the standard westerner backpacker definition of "get pissed and make an idiot of yourself while being surrounded by others doing the same," then Beachcomber (& Manta Ray) are the closest thing you'll find. If you're looking for the more mature idea of partying where you have a few beers but don't really get drunk and just quietly chat with a few people, then there are many decent options. Of course, you could always just spend 1 night at Beachcomber for your main partying night and then stay at more civilized places the rest of the trip. There are many places that are better than Beachcomber that will give you a much better taste of the more genuine Fiji. If I were looking for a party/beach atmosphere and nothing else, I'd be heading to Australia over Fiji. | 6
Gotta love an arrogant self-righteous response. Get pissed and make a fool of yourself sounds fine. | 7
For the record, I have nothing against getting pissed and making a fool of oneself, and quite enjoy doing it from time to time. No condescension was intended - I'm just telling you what sort of atmosphere to expect at certain places. | 8
" If I were looking for a party/beach atmosphere and nothing else, I'd be heading to Australia over Fiji." Given I live here 24/7, a vacation in Australia doesn't sound that flash, haha. I get what you mean. For the most part I do prefer the quieter, more intimate kind of drunken nights you can't have with several hundred of your sweatiest, closest friends. But fresh off a break-up, however mutual, a night of drunken revelry does have its appeals... | 9
cwbush83. $F119 a night - $A60. Not bad I'd say. | 10
But still about $50 Fijian more than what I'd be paying for pretty much any other dorm accommodation in Fiji | 11
Accommadation only, definetly poor. Thought meals where included. Have a great time anyway. | 12
Cheers! I'd love to still hit up Beachcomber. It's an option after the rest of my party head home. | 13
Thanks for all your advice guys and girls, unfortunately we're not any further forward, in fact we‘re getting bogged down by too many options. We do wana go and get pissed and make idiots out of ourselves, but would be nice to have a quiet night aswell and chill out. Looks like beachcomber it is if we can make it across. | 14
