my girlfriend and i are thinking about doing Fiji in april for 2 weeks and just after a bit of advice.
The scuba-diving stuff and the "cultural" stuff are not often located so close together. But there are some scuba type semi-resorts (since you are not on a super-low budget) which are worth checking into, that are near villages, and away from Denarau Beach and other touristy areas. I'd pick one for 4-6 days or so, then just travel around after that based on recommendations from the net or travelers you'll meet during that first week. | 1
The Ovalau area might fit your interests. www.levukafiji.com gives you an insight about Levuka, the offshore islands and activities. | 2
hi flashflood, my wife and i went to fiji for our honeymoon. for no particular reason we settled on taveuni. we were lucky. it offered us the perfect combination of a unique cultural experience with all the things we wanted to do, ie scuba diving at rainbow reef and other amazing spots, shore and deep sea fishing and lots of relaxing and enjoying the south pacific. admittedly, if yuou are looking for a party it is not the place to go. we stayed at a private property called lomani. we are not resort types and were looking for privacy on our honeymoon. this is an amazing 2 acre property all to yourself full of fruit trees, on a cliff on the beach facing west for amazing sunsets, romantic pool and outdoor double shower, king size four poster bed....... if you want to dive, fish and relax in your own private home, this is your place- www.lomanifiji.com. if you want a resort and are not budget constrained, taveuni resort and taveuni palms are amazing. i am confident to say that taveuni would be the best spot in fiji to offer a combination of unique culture with amazing diving, fishing, waterfalls etc. | 3
