| caqob16:13 UTC24 Nov 2007 | hello,
a few quick questions about Fiji. i'll be there in early Feb between NZ and the USA.
at the moment my plan is to spend 3/4 days of my stay somewhere on the Mamanucas - mainly because i want to be close enough to the airport in Nadi and also because i'd love to dive the Supermarket and Gotham city while there (i'm PADI certified). i've looked into diving companies (subsurface, aqua trek) and they all look good - i just need a bit more info on accommodation that links to these companies. because i'll be by myself i don't want to be in a place which is full of families and honeymooners...but at the same time i'm not a 24-hour-party-party type of person. if anyone knows of an accommadation choice in the Mamanucas might be suitable...? i have beachcombers, castaway, ratu kini, funky fish on my list but haven't been able to get any definite info one way or the other so far.
also, i'd like to do a one-day hike into the Nausori highlands on the Viti Levu mainland to see a bit more of the country before i go - net searches have thrown up one with victory.com.fj, on tourshopfiji.com and there's also one on viator.com - has anyone been on of these or similar and could offer some tips?
Cheers.

| smandkjc01:18 UTC25 Nov 2007 | Stayed at Funky Fish recently and it was good. My wife dived with Subsurface based at Musket Cove , she preferred Viti water sports on Matamanoa but they now have a different divemaster who may not be as good. The Supermarket and Gotham City are reasonably close to both these resorts but Funky fish is the cheaper. Beachcomber is further away and is a party island with loads of daytrippers. Snorkeling around Matamanoa was very good whereas Funky fish is a lot more tidal and does not impress at low tide but it was a friendly low key resort.

| caqob05:09 UTC29 Nov 2007 | thanks for your input:) i've been emailing Karen at Subsurface, who's been helpful so far, and funky fish looks good too. will post after i've been there to keep the info current!
i've also found a few more references to day hikes/tours in the Nausori highlands, eg.:- http://www.discoverfijitours.com/jewel_fiji.html
if anyone has any feedback.
Cheers:)
