5 days in Fiji - Which islands? and how to get there from the airport?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Me and my girlfriend have 5 days and 4 nights to spend on Fiji islands, we want to go to 2 different islands and spend 2 nights on each island but there are so many to choose from! From the forum's I have read on here, Nacula and Waya seem to be popular choices. Which ones would you recommend? and how do you get to the islands? is it better to book the boat/ferry and accommodation before you get to Fiji or just turn up? From our time in Fiji we want spend some time relaxing/snorkling and some time exploring local villages if this is possible.

Thanks

Nacula is a 4 or 5 hour ferry ride from Denerau amounting to a days travel each way. Unwise for a 2 day stay unless flying (which is very pricey)

I really liked Wayalailai (lively, good food, lots of interaction with the locals), I would book directly with them for 2 nights and wait to see what the other travellers say to book your next place (again directly). You have to take the Awesome adventure boat to get to Wayalailai, but you may be able to go local boat if the next island is near. This is cheaper and the money goes to the locals rather than expats.

Octopus is a great (although more expensive) islands. It is worth it though.

In Nadi, I stay in the Tropic of Capricorn, its about $10Fiji from the airport and the best value for money when you get in.

hope this helps.
