50th Birthday Present FijiCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
Hello I am taking my Mother to Fiji for her 50th Birthday there are 6 of us going all family and we are staying at the Fiji Palms, in Pacific Harbour. Does anyone have anything to say about this place and also what is nearby in Pacific harbour, are there restaurants and activity's to do. What are the beaches like? and are they close to our resort. I have heard alot of good things about Fiji, but I have also heard alot of bad things to so I am really looking for a bit of reassuring I suppose. Cheers
"I have also heard alot of bad things " - really ? Like what? I went to Fiji for my 40th birthday some years ago and mentioned this to the porter at the hotel (Shangri-La Fijian). He invited me to his village for a Lovo (feast) and to meet the Chief. The kids played soccer with the village kids, we ate the feast, drank Kava with the chief and joined the Church service that night - magnificent harmonies (and Im not Christian). The whole afternoon/evening was the highlight of our holiday - it was that good. | 1
I have been to Fiji many times - can't understand people having anything but a great time - booked again for 2009! Can't help ourselves - although we prefer the outer islands to the main island - I'm sure you'll have a ball (had my 50th in Fiji a few months ago) | 2
It should all be pretty good, compared to most places travelers go. And yes, let the hotel/restaurant etc know it's her birthday, could be the start of an impromptu party! | 3
I have stayed at Pacific Harbour many times, although not at Fiji Palms. It is right on a great beach with a fantastic view of Beqa Island. You have the Pearl Resort right next door and the Uprising Resort a short walk along the beach. There are a few other restaurants around and you are only a 45 minute taxi ride (approx. 45FJD one way) from Suva for an interesting day out. You should all have a great time- just be careful of con men and pickpockets in Suva. | 4
