6 days and 5 nights in Fiji - recommended itinerary, things to not miss, where to stay etcCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
Hi there, My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to Fiji for the first time from April 2-April 7th. We like to pack as much as we can when we travel - beach, hiking, activities, culture. We typically also rent a car and drive to places. We would welcome any itinerary recommendations for those 6 days, 5 nights - where to go, where to stay, what to do, what not to miss. thank you!
you could drive around the island if you had a car, but the other roads are not really rental car friendly, Taxis are cheap and there are regular buses that are very cheap along the KIngs and Queens road, once you decide your budget and where you want to stay then you can plan more | 1
Should we spend our trip in the Mananuca and Yasawa Island group OR on the main Island given our first post? | 2
To be honest, I have difficulty answering questions along the lines of "What should we do? Should we go here or here?" The difficulty for me is that I'm not sure if the problem is lack of information on the poster's part, or just an inability to make a decision. The thing about any island resort - in the Mamanucas or the Yasawas is that the activities will be very much limited to water-related activites (especially on first group) and possibly some tame hiking if the island is big enough - but you have to pick the right island for this. And of course, swinging in a hammock! For some people this is good enough -- it is all they want to do and are happy with it. But it is up to them to decide. If they know what's there and want it, then go there and get it. Also, most island resorts are essentially all that you will find in the islands (depends on island). The only contact with Fijian 'culture' will be with the Fijians working at the resort, and maybe a 'show' put on for the visitors. The relative advantage of the mainland (Viti Levu) is that there are more possibilities for a wider range of activity and experience - such as town life at locations such as Suva or Lautoka, also seaside resort areas for watersports, as well as a variety of inland and National Park tours, some homestays here and there .. As #1 says, a car isn't a big advantage on Viti Leveu. It's only good for the main coast road, which buses cover cheaply. Why don't you suggest an itinerary or two, and people with experience with any or all of the itinerary stops could comment. | 3
