advise needed : which island should we choose ?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
Hello, | ||
There's lots of great snorkelling and hiking in the Yasawas, and it is one of the easiest areas to explore since it's well set up for tourists. I didn't dive there, but would based on the snorkelling would expect there are some very good spots for that as well. | 1
Combining hiking and snorkeling/diving: I'd drop Vanua Balavu and Mamanucas. Certain Yasawa islands are OK for some hiking, such as Waya Island. Diving likely better at Taveuni (Rainbow reef) and Kadavu (Great Astrolabe Reef). Taveuni would also be the better option for hiking possibilities, although not from the same base. For example, stay at lower budget Dolphin Bay Resort http://www.dolphinbaydivers.com/ technically on Vanua Levu across the strait, then after the water sports go over to Taveuni for jungle walks. Transport options better for Taveuni and Yasawas (easier to get back to Viti Levu from Yasawas, just in case you want mainland hiking activities). Easier to put together a more varied trip. There will be a bit more rain at Taveuni than the Yasawas. It didn't concern me, but for those looking for beach breaks it might be an issue. | 2
