Affordable best beach/island in Fiji?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hello there,

Looking to spend about a week in Fiji in February with my wife on a sweet, quiet, beautiful swimmable beach away from the buzz and hectic life...which there seems to be many options in Fiji. We are fine taking a ferry, boat, plane or other means to get off the mainland to achieve this to a smaller island but doing research are a little daunted at the prices of resorts and such places which aren't really our style anyway. Our budget would be in the US$100 range or less per day for 2. We'd prefer not to do hostels etc. and are fine with comfortable and humble places but are we dreaming? Most important to us is hygiene, proximity to a beautiful beach/nature and vegetarian options.

Thanks!

a wonderful place we stayed was Tropica resort off Nadi. Adults only and top class staff. Price is well above your expected price range though, you would need to go $300 US per day there. If you decide to splash some cash I would recommend that however

there are some islands on the east side which are relaxing, eg Leleuvia or the Beach house on the coral coast, plus there are local cruises which may suit. All places will have vegetarian food options

Have a look at Mana Island. There are a couple of backpackers places there that also have some accommodation that is geared towards couples who want a bit more comfort. Not sure if it will fit in your budget as it has ben awhile since we were there. Another area you could consider is Nananu-i-ra(sp?) Island off the north coast - bus or taxi to Ellington Wharf where accommodation will pick you up(at a cost of course). Bethams or McDonalds offers basic accommodation at budget prices but on nice beaches with a quiet vibe!

I stayed for five nights at the ICH, you'd want to aim to stay in their club rooms or suites. Whilst at the ICH we went to Yatule for lunch one day and weren't all that impressed with the food. There is an adults only pool in the main part of the resort but it's nowhere near as nice as the Club pool...too many people even if they are all adults. (meals at ICH could be a mixed bag also mind you compared to what we are used to in NZ).
