Does anyone know if Pacific Air will let one upgrade to business class on a space available basis at LAX? I know that Tahiti Nui will let one upgrade at LAX for $700 and for $600 from Papette. Thanks.

Have you asked the airline??

Paying an extra $100 an hour for those flites....you can't eat and drink that much, or can you?

It's not for the food or drink. I like to upgrade for the seat! It is a more comfortable seat. I leave the plane ready to vacation. When I fly long distances in coach it is very cramped and I am not a big person.

Not quite as long or cramped as from ATL down to CPT!

As suggested, just contact the airline directly. But really, I've done these long flights for 30 yrs, and I'd rather use that $600 to splurge after arrival!

One suggestion----wherever you live, go into a local newspaper and ask if they would consider printing an article you would write about Fiji. If so, ask them for a letter "assigning" you to write the article.
When you get to LAX, tell the Air Pacific check-in people you are "on assignment" to do a travel article about Fiji. On occasion, they may stretch the rules and upgrade you if there is a business class seat available.

I used to do a lot of articles about the SP before I moved to the Cooks. I would get assigned (in my case legitimately) to write an article for a small newspaper or mag. , and try to get upgraded in advance. On the larger airlines like Air NZ, Qantas, etc., one had to go through their PR department to get upgraded in advance, so this probably would not work for you. But for the smaller ones, like Polynesian Airlines, etc. they would often tell me to just show a letter of assignment to the ticketing staff when I got to LAX. I got upgraded about half the time.

And of course, do write an article for that newspaper when you return!!

yep, USD 600 upgrades to Nadi on offer from the Air Pacific counter at LAX, depending on seat availability. From what i've seen of the business class on the Air Pac planes i'd keep the cash.
