Airport to Fiji Intercontinental - options

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi folks, I am lucky enough to be taking my wife and our two-year-old son to the Intercontinental for a week next month.

We're splashing out on the hotel (obviously) but wish to save money where possible and straightforward.

It is a princely FJD$300 to take a pre-booked return private transfer from the airport to our hotel, but I'd hate to book this only to find I could (for example) pick up a decent and comparable taxi fare from the airport for FJD$50 one-way.

Can anyone advise on this?

Cheers, Steve

Taxi will cost about FJD$100 each way.... You won't have issues finding a taxi at the airport.... You can negotiate price with taxi driver if you would prefer not to go by meter price... If you decide to go by meter price, make sure the meter is on & uncovered when you get into the taxi.... Many taxis here have a scam were they cover their meter, unsuspecting tourists get in & don't realise the meter has already been running adding about $15 to the ride... All adds up when you travel a lot by taxi during your holiday... Enjoy your holiday, Intercontinental is a beautiful resort!!!

You should also be aware that there aren't any child car seat laws here, so you will not find a taxi with a car seat or booster seat for your 2 year old... If this is an issue for you, then you should bring one with you :)

and if you wanted to save more money, you could get an ac bus to the Natadola turn off and then a taxi from there, but a taxi will be good and cheap, although I have used the Hotel service and didn't think it excessive for the quality of the vehicle. you will love the beach and the children's pool and the food. A good choice

Great replies thanks to all

if you are going to catch the bus from the airport take a look at this YouTube clip

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHRsrj0sIgk

it shows you where and how to catch the bus

2 yr old son - you should definitely get a transfer with a car seat

look at www,fijitransfers.com

they book transfers to the Intercontinental Resort

not sure how much but get a quote

As suggested in above posts, you could also catch the express coach from the airport to Natadola Junction (www.pacifictransport.com.fj/time-table.html)... Cost about FJ$5 p/p each way.... Takes just over an hour.... Then a taxi from the junction to Intercontinental (taxi cost about FJ$15).... Although I'm not too sure how easy it would be to catch a taxi from the junction, I would imagine not too hard

Thanks for all these replies. I've since discovered that in fact it was FJ$300 one-way, not return.

Given this, unless someone advises further, I will probably get the taxi from the airport.

Cheers, Steve
