Alcohol limits through customs in Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I'm sure this question has been answered many times on this branch but the TT search function is shocking and I have scrolled through pages and not found anything so apologies in advance.

I'm thinking of taking my own wine to Fiji and would like to know the limit I can bring with me from Oz. Also, I'm wondering how much the taxes are if I go over that limit.

If anyone could help me, I'd very much appreciate it.

Thank you!

Coals, Newcastle.....

I've found the selection in Fiji to be not that great, and the price greatly inflated by import taxes. So take what you can - I think from NZ we were allowed the equivalent of 6 bottles - but should be easy to check on your airlines website.

I don't think they make wine in Newcastle either!!!

This is a tad off subject... but has anyone tried to fly with box wine? They're starting to put some pretty good stuff in boxes here in the US. Normally comes in 2-5 liter boxes that contain something like a plastic bota bag.

Thanks for the replies TaiMarilyn and H2ooh.

H2- I believe cask wine is allowed, it still has to comply with the limit of litres allowed through customs though.

My friend always takes cask wine in her suitcase - she has a preferred brand which is not available at duty free. She declares it as part of her allowance and has never had a problem.

i've taken wine bottles in my luggage - and bought duty free spirits - ticked the boxes to say have over the limit alcohol - on arrival showed my duty free and they were quite happy - with a question as my bag went through the scanner - "is that wine in your bag" "yes" - that was the end of that!!!

Scroll down to duty free allowances on this site. Bear in mind that the allowances are for wine OR spirits OR beer.

Here it is;

From the Fiji Customs website;

IMPORT: free import (only for persons of 17 years and over):

  • 250 cigarettes or 250 grams of cigars or a combination of tobacco products not exceeding 250 grams net weight;
  • 2,25 litres of liquor or 4,5 litres of wine or 4,5 litres of beer, or any combination that does not exceed the prescribed limit for any one item;

I will be taking 6 bottles of chardonnay from the air new zealand wine awards trophy and gold medal guide 2012. Pick a copy up attached to the in flight magazine or at the koru lounge.

Cheers,

Ken.
