arriving early morning christmas day

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi all, I'm arriving in fiji with my girlfriend on xmas day on the fiji 5:40am flight.

From there we are planning on catching the yasawa flyer our to oarsmans bay.

a few things i am wondering:

i've been told that i need to get to raffles gateway hotel opposite nadi airport before 7:15am to get to the port on their courtesy bus. is this correct? also how far is it to the hotel from the airport?

also we are wanting to take some snacks with us. is their a supermarket that would be open, and close to the airport/hotel that will allow us to buy foods?

Raffles is just opposite the airport and going thru immigration/customs etc is not normally lengthy. Hopefully your plane will not be late !!

Not really, and you wont have much time anyway. Take some snacks from home on the plane

1

Have you booked the Yasawa Flyer already? Im not certain that they travel on Christmas Day.

2

Raffles has a little store in the lobby that sells snack items but I'm not sure when it would open. You could try e-mailing them to ask for the operating hours.

3

has been booked by oarsmans bay lodge for me :)

thanks for all the replies - i think i AM going to take some food from aus and be done with it.

4

You will love Oarsmans, PLUS They now have hot water in bures (and lights), and the dining room has been tiled

5

Yes there is a water tank. Water is provided free from the tank at meal times. You can fill a bottle or 2 then. The bar also sells bottled water - not too expensive.

6

what is the water situation at oarsman? is any water provided or have to have own/buy own?

i heard that there was a rainwater tank, is that still correct?

7

We took some bottles from the supermarket in Nadi, but neednt have bothered (except for use on the Flyer)

8

thanks for all the info mandja.

by the way, does anyone know what the weather will be like around that time of the year?

mandja thanks for all the info - we went to oarsmans bay lodge with no issues. flew in at 5:40am or so, and got through the airport, got the flyer tickets and then walked to the bus stop where the yasawa flyer courtesy bus is (i think it was aobut 300 metres).

overall everything was good.

the only gripe i have is that when we got on the island, they were disorganised. i'm not sure if they were playing dumb, but if i have paid for my whole accomodation and food (like you have to there), i expect people to not ask for my proof. they should have it on record.

also, they did not know that i had paid for the honeymoon package. this became more obvious when i tried to sort it out, and they did not know what it was at all, o rthat i had it arranged. i ended up cancelling it to get a credit due to my lack of faith. we had problems with the credit too - we were told we could use it on the costs amassed while staying there (snacks, drinks, activities). when we went to settle the account, they tried to make us go to the airport to get our credit from there (i doubt we would have even gotten refund). overall, it felt like if they didn't want to do anything, they'd do all the can to get out of it.

other than the money gripe (others had a LOT of problems with refunds too), i had a great time and would reccommend this to anyone. the beach was amazing and it was very relaxing to go there.

if i went to the yawas again i would try octopus resort as everyone said that the accom was better but not the beach, they are comparable enough to try it.

if anyone has any questions they can PM me.
