ATM & Food

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hello, I am heading to Fiji to the Matamanoa Island resort for 4 nights in April and i have read on trip advisor that the Food & drinks are very expensive and to bring my own. I was wondering if anyone here thinks that i need to buy drinks/food in Nadi or BYO from Australia before heading to the island? Also, how much Fijiian Dollars should i take to the island with me? i was thinking $500 ($100 per day) and this would be to cover things that i can't use my cards for. Not Food (as this will be through the resort). Also, has anyone stayed on this Island and has any more info for me. Thankyou

We have stayed at Matamanoa several times and would not consider the food and drinks to be excessively expensive. A$100 a day should cover your food and drinks and you do not need Fijian $ cash as you can put everything on your card on the island.
There will be a Credit card surcharge of around 3% from memory.
There is great snorkeling around the island and out at Bird Rock where you can go on snorkeling trips.
Enjoy your holiday.

Thanks smandkjc,
Great that I can use my card at the resort for food and activities.
Did you go on the village trip? Would i need any Fiji dollars for the locals if I buy anything? Is there anything to buy even?
Thanks for the snorkelling tip!! It looks like a beautiful place.

Did not go on the village trip as we have done so before at other islands.
Yes that is the only time you may need a bit of cash or for a tip for the housemaids if you are so inclined.
We normally just convert NZ$200 at the airport as we head out of NZ to the Pacific and use what is left over to part pay our resort account and put the balance on our credit card so you are not left with lots of different currencies.
