backpacker's or cheap island for young people??Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
Hi, I know there are a few similar questions in this forum but nothing really answers my question... I am going to Fiji with a friend in 2 weeks and we are looking for somewhere to stay - we want a backpackers or somewhere where we can meet other young people (we are both early 20s), preferably on one of the islands. I have been to Fiji a few times before but always with my family, and we always stayed in resorts with heaps of families. We're both keen on watersports eg. swimming/snorkelling/kayaks/boat trips etc. Does anyone know of any cool backpacker spots or islands with not too many little kids? I remember once taking a day trip to a resort that was pretty much just a roof with bunks on this beautiful white sand island with a resaurant but I can't remember what it is called... Cheers!
If you don't mind staying on Viti Levu, you can try Beachouse, which is on the Coral Coast, about 2hrs bus ride from Nadi. It's a great place to chill, with daily activities to do or skip at your leisure... very relaxed atmosphere. The accommodation is quite affordable, meals are reasonably priced (~F$6-10 for lunch, ~F$10-20 for dinner) and decent quality. There were no kids when I went there - just about everyone was in their 20's-30's. Downside is that their "beach" is not great. Website: http://fijibeachouse.com/ You could also try one of the Yasawa islands. The place I went to was awesome, but was mostly couples/families (Blue Lagoon Beach Resort). There are other islands that might attract a younger crowd... check out Beachcomber Island, or Bounty Island. I didn't stay at either but they looked geared for backpackers. | 1
I recommend the beach house as well. I did take my daughter there and she was the only kid around. Its a great place with great facilities for backpackers budgets. I dont think the beach is that bad, on a sunny day its a great beach and the best snorkelling is only around the corner on the MPA check out my suggestions for activities on the Coral Coast. Have fun :-) http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=1882156 | 2

Beachcomber Island is hideous! Stay away unless you like drunkeness! | 5
beachcomber is also so tiny that you can walk around it in 30 mins, u r captive there, and after a while the most interesting thing is to watch the arrivals and departures. | 6
Lots of young people making out too, disgustingly immoral! | 7
