Hi, I'm looking for some inspiration for my next trip. I'm a solo female (26) looking to go away in March/ April for 3 weeks or so. It's a pretty spontaneous trip so I'm just starting to look on the LP site and see what might take my fancy. What I'm really wondering is, is Fiji a good place to go alone? Does it have a good backpacking infrastructure to meet other solo travellers? Any words of inspiration would be appreciated!
Follow the crowd, follow the crowd...... | 1
Easy to meet other travelers, probably the best for what you are looking for. | 2
Fiji is a great place for solo travel. But I'm not sure what to say about other aspects of your message. Meeting other travellers has never been a specific goal of my own solo-style travel. I visit places for other reasons, and I meet who I meet and don't make a fuss about it. If it's your goal to meet other travellers and also have backpacker infrastructure (not 100% sure what you mean) then by all means follow the crowds to the Yasawas. If you want to meet other independent travellers (not just people on holiday) then you'd have better luck if you headed east on Viti Levu, and other eastern islands such as Ovalau, Taveuni, and Vanua Levu. Fewer travelers/holiday-makers, less backpacker infrastructure, although still a reasonable selection of budget accom. Invest in David Stanley's Fiji guide and see what strikes your fancy. theres some cool places away from the yasawas and mamanucas(sp). Im heading over there around the same time(late march, beginning of april). Im heading along the coral coast then to a little island called leluvia, northwest of suva. I didnt even know most of the places existed, i was just looking for 'yasawa'-type destinations until i stumbled across a lot of other cool places. fiji i would say is the place i enjoyed meeting other people the most. FOR THE MOST PART they arent there to get pissed, theyre there to genuinely travel and see the culture. | 4
agrees with dodg, esp re decent other travellers | 5
i went to fiji as a female solo backpacker 2 yrs ago and it was great! i did my own thing, and met ppl along the way. Samoa is another great option, i prefered it there over fiji... | 6
