basic accommodation

If anyone is looking for a basic place to hang around for a few days or so, then the following might assist. It's by means suitable for everyone. But some folks, me included, appreciated it and I wish that I'd known about it before I arrived in Fiji.

I've just spent a couple of days in a basic house about 20 minutes or so walk (using the shortcuts) east of Viseisei village on the west coast of Fiji. It's about a 10 minute walk from the Queen's Road, from where you can catch local transport north to Lautoka or south to Nadi. If you're looking for a basic place to spend a few days or so, and the location isn't that important to you, then this might work.

It's in the countryside, and there's the normal sort of fruit, veg, sugar cane, etc growing yards away. It can get very quiet, except for the dogs. which behave like normal dogs. The walk to the Queen's Road is OK during the day, but at night you need to be careful about tripping over things. There is a road, but it's not maintained. There are buses that go along that road, but not that many. Generally speaking, it's better to walk to the Queen's Road, and catch transport there.

But, it's not for everyone. The loo and shower are outside. Inside is pretty basic. There's 1 largish room, another smaller one, and the kitchen. There's a tv, plus washing machine. There's cooking stuff as well, although I wouldn't back on preparing anything that fancy.

It costs 20 FJD a night, although if you're staying for anything longer than a few days I reckon you should be able to get it cheaper.

It's half of a building. The other half has a local family living in it. There's also electricity (not a generator).

The lady is also in the travel business, so can assist with any info/bookings. But she doesn't push it. Also, she, or her husband will also pick you up from Nadi airport, which is only about 12 kilometres or so away anyway.
