I have be in Suva each day, but wanted to stay on a beach. Where is the CLOSEST best beach to Suva?
THANKS!!!

Wouldnt the closest beach be on a nearby island?

Well, the one that has a nice beach is, or at least was, being used as a prison camp for George Speight and associates from the coup a few yrs ago!!

Toberua Island is a short drive but then a long boatride to the NE of Suva, and is a private resort.

I do remember some very tiny beaches on the way north towards the Toberua boat connection. Most of the coast is a kind of muddy/swampy scene, but occasionally there seemed to be a few coastal patches maybe 10m wide where one could lie down on some sand and also jump in for a little swim without the mud. But the first major beach I remember was as above, west at Pacific Harbour. With a rental car, one can do some exploring for these hidden spots, but no guarantees.

The prison camp Island is Nukulau and there were talks that it should be turned back into a picnic Island (what it used to be before) fo mainly Suva residents. Check with people in the yacht club, they should be up to date if the island is open for the public again . For weekends try Leleuvia ot Caqalai, it's a 1.5 hour bus drive from Suva to the boat landing and then another 40 minutes with the boat. Both have beautiful beaches.
