Best guide book for south pacific

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I guess there will be a new South Pacific lonely planet guide book coming out dec 2016. I am hoping for a vast long term trip of the islands this winter....would that be about the best book for a guide? Thanks

I think the Lp South Pacific guide is about the only one covering the whole region currently so it must be best by default.
Otherwise, it is far from great.
It is OK for a whirlwind tour of the most popular islands, but if you are planning to spend much time exploring off the beaten track, you might want to back it up with other, older books.
The old Moon South Pacific guide is far more detailed and though now out of print, much of its info remains useful.
Old editions of Lp country guides to places like Solomon Islands and Vanuatu can also be very useful. No single country guides to these are published any more.
