Best Snorkeling in Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hallo! I'm flying to Fiji in August with a child (9 years old). I'm looking for a good place to snorkelling, where the reef is shallow (about 1 meter) and is a lot of colorful fish. I read about Mololo Island. How do you rate this place compared to Bali or Thailand?

Ania

I have not been to Mololo Island but I would suggest the reef off North Beach on Mana Island. It is quite shallow and I would rate it as better than Thailand (Similan Islands only) and on a par with Bali, although Menjangan Island had the best snorkeling for me - unfortunately, you cannot access it from the shore.

We have taken our grandchildren to Malolo Island Resort and it was fantastic. The snorkelling was in shallow enough water for all children to see the fish life, there is a reasonably priced meal plan, a children's club is run through the day and they have very cheap babysitting staff if you wanted a "grownup" evening.

Oops- sorry- forgot to respond re Thailand and Bali- having been to both these places they do not compare to Fiji or other Pacific islands in my opinion, for ease of access to the underwater world for children.

Hello!
I booked a flight by seaplane to Mana Island. I'll be there half day only. I have a few questions:
Can you recommend me where is the best place to snorkeling in island?
This is near from the airport?
Can I rent there snorkeling equipment?
There are a left luggage?
Are there other attractions besides snorkeling?

If someone was in Mana Island, please for directions.

Hi Stefania,
It is many years since I have been to Mana Island so I'll try and answer your questions. You should be able hire snorkel equipment from either reception or their dive centre, and also be able to leave your luggage with reception, probably for a small fee as you are only visiting the island. You are arriving by seaplane which will land only metres from the resort centre as the resort covers almost the whole island, it's not very large. Snorkelling will be all that you will be able to do in half a day as well as relax on the beach or the restaurant. It might pay you to email the resort with your questions. Enjoy your brief stay in the Fiji islands.
